For 30 years, productivity sky-rocketed with the advancement of automation and computing. Meanwhile, a decline in longevity was observed, correlated to sleep depravation. Productivity improvement goes to the owners class' pockets, sleep benefits the workers health.

I wonder, is life best lived like a job? I.e set goals for yourself and then work to achieve them? Today I realised how passively I have been living mine so far, but maybe that's ok? I don't want a second job.

this is where I live. it’s a plateau. it’s quiet, we have cats and there are goats around and fig and pear trees. #mapnotesfollow Kallikratis, CreteKalikratisMunicipality of Sfakia, Chania Regional Unit, Region of Crete, Greece

You look in the corner, you see a guy quietly eating cigarette butts. It's ok. He's dealing with a lot of stress from work. He takes care of his family. Capitalism

code quality is about coupling. coupling is not a technical property of the code bytes. code acquires its meaning in contact with the cultural environment, and coupling is about meaning. two constants with no semantic relationship are nonetheless coupled in pragmatics if they refer to the same domain concept. if your goal is to minimise the time integral of future work, you must understand your domain: it decides which lines will need changing. to carve up a codebase is to carve up the world.

I'm doing experiments with short attention-span students and code. Starting with python, and, oddly, now working in BASIC. As a C programmer of 40+ years, I find this aesthetically and pedagogically displeasing, but I am delighted to see them getting fully absorbed in writing 130 PRINT "You have been eaten by a bear!" : GOTO 900. Yes there is spaghetti, but it's their spaghetti and they seem to take delight in debugging it. Python will come later. #educationnotesfollow #programmingnotesfollow

a constant, existential pull so old I couldn't tell you the end or draw its shape between kind acceptance and striving, struggling, writhing, climbing learning, growing, discontent "do you feel this way, too, at endless war with longing itself?" but the birds and trees and ants and wind in their own marvelous design don't reply #poemnotesfollow

I remain #AInotesfollow ambiguous. This morning I used pi+gpt5.6 to create a #vimnotesfollow color scheme based on evergarden.moe. It works, and I haven’t checked how well it stay true to the style used in vim-bundled schemas. Before I wouldn’t have done this, and now I can. But I don’t know if it is good. github.com/…/evergarden.vim #codingnotesfollow #githubnotesfollow

Happy Software Freedom Day, everyone!

At moms house for the holiday weekend so the kids can see Nana. She has a "premium Plex" account on her tv serving a truly massive amount of content. Allegedly the brother of a long time friend is offering the "service". She says that the service will go down when the host is having outages, so the infra is likely local. I brought my year this weekend. We are going to dig in to this guys operation. Intuition dictates that there is some hand rolled accounting going on. I'd like to see it.

Last weeks post about "if you're not using an LLM router, how do you know wtf is going on" inspired me to spin up a couple of OSS options this week and wow were they right.
