I understand your confusion, but that's the formatting - quoted parent is below the child post - then that post's replies follow in the discussion view. The top post is always quoting its parent below it, the different bg makes it distinct. Just need to get used to it, same on X.

It's cute because you have to put it in a sandbox right away (Virtualbox is a sandbox) so it doesn't mess up everything on the machine or the server or anywhere else, but these AI chatbots are basically peaceful little animals, right?

And yet, homes remain chronically under-managed. Cars have service records. Portfolios have dashboards. Homes have a junk drawer full of manuals and receipts. This leads to problems that degrade a home's value over time. Deferred maintenance snowballs from small issues to emergency repairs costing thousands. I use GoalCodeberg.orggoalGoal, an embeddable scripting array language., extended with ariGitHubGitHub - semperos/ari: Ari: Goal language extended with SQL and moreAri: Goal language extended with SQL and more. Contribute to semperos/ari development by creating an account on GitHub. as my daily driver. Since it's implemented in Go, it's straightforward to extend with anything from Go's standard library (or third-party ecosystem) that isn't already incorporated. If you haven't used an array language before, then you get the added bonus of learning a ton about an interesting, powerful area of programming.

I sometimes use V scriptGitHubv/doc/docs.md at master ยท vlang/vSimple, fast, safe, compiled language for developing maintainable software. Compiles itself in <1s with zero library dependencies. Supports automatic C => V translation. https://vlang.io - vl..., but I use V-lang as well. It is kind-of interpreted. Iโ€™ve never heard of rye. Looks nice.

It does not, but fakes it well, since it is fast and compares built binary with script mtime to automatically recompile. The downside of using it is that you end up with a binary, but the upside is that it is blazing fast.

I hate crawlers that donโ€™t advertise theyโ€™re crawlers. โ€™n badly written. They donโ€™t respect the canonical URLs so they keep getting themselves into a loop instead of actually crawling the site properly. They make the logs really hard to read. Canโ€™t block them theyโ€™re distributed.

For this particular problem though, I feel like if the crawlers are coming from domestic / residential IP addresses and they lack a distinctive http header or user agent, it is indistinguishable from a denial of service attack and must be treated as such.

It would require permaban on IPs which would require permalogging of IPs in order to track them, and we are currently obfuscating them before hitting the DB with daily rotating salt so an anonymous user canโ€™t be tracked. So weโ€™d have to give up privacy/security :/

But as long as people can still use the site it's OK, right? Seems like the problem is often self-inflicted, either because the site is so bloated that answering even GET-requests is burdensome, or because they're trying to monetize the data and so must block non-paying scrapers.
