This strangely reminded me of golden days of Twitter. There was a point I absolutely love Twitter. This is also a reminder for me to pick up a book instead of reading a load of random stuff online. Thank you!

This morning I was deleting a little of Gemma's attachments from the computer because I was starting to get tired of her antics, and then my dad said, "There's a guy on the internet" who's been doing this for twenty years, I don't know, if he hadn't noticed, I'd be doing the same thing anyway.

So we can't use em dash anymore โ€” lest we anger the mob. Truth be told though, English teachers have always discouraged em dash overuse because it is a subtle art and very easy to get wrong.

The funny thing is that in the UK, we don't really use the em dash anyway. We use the hyphen (I guess en dash?) with a space each side. So the em dash has always looked a bit odd to us... ๐Ÿ˜Š

There are dashes (-), as well as en dashes (โ€“), and there are em dashes (โ€”), not to miss the mighty center dot (โ€ข) that looks like a perky boob when surrounded by brackets haha

Just get and read Chicago Manual of Style, or Oxford Style Manual if you so prefer, and youโ€™re all set to use the various dashโ€™es (and many other things).

Thereโ€™s other dashes to pick if you want to steer clear of the almighty em dash!

The anti-slop mob is tiresome. With a careful and appropiate use of ai it is possible to make a lot of interesting stuff. And I hate even more when the mob "profs" that the text is ai using those ai detectros that can't detect ai.

Someone can create enormous value while their manager controls the narrative around that value. Conversely, a manager can conceal structural problems because the people capable of exposing them depend on that same manager for evaluation and promotion

I'm 55 and recently self-diagnosed as "fairly ASD with some ADHD" after watching a lot of youtube videos. It's been immensely helpful (to the point of bringing me to tears sometimes) in understanding the struggles I had when I was younger. It's also been very helpful in understanding what I can do currently to support myself and work with my brain instead of against it.
@pqs๐Ÿคชprofilefollowreplied to@drewfishprofilefollowretired programmer, new #ttrpgnotesfollow DM, learning Scottish Gaelic:
I'm glad it was useful to you. This process of becoming aware of our autism is not easy. It is liberating, but it is also difficult, at the same time. I watched a lot of videos too, but then I visited a couple psiquiatrists and a psycologist (I had other problems too), just to be sure. What is your opinion about the ASD youtube landscape? I think that there are a few very good channels, but there is lot of noise too. I see some danger there.
@pqs๐Ÿคชprofilefollowcontinued:
Those "10 signs you may be [or not be] autistic" seem quite dangerous to me. Neurodivergence can be tricky.
@drewfishprofilefollowretired programmer, new #ttrpgnotesfollow DM, learning Scottish Gaelicreplied to@pqs๐Ÿคชprofilefollow:
Yeah I agree that there are many ASD channels on YT of varying qualities. I only follow a few. Some of my favorites (very roughly in order):
  • @MomontheSpectrum
  • @imautisticnowwhat
  • @elenacarr0ll -- kinda more emotive, but I find that helpful sometimes
  • @autismfromtheInside -- no longer posts (burned out)
I think for now being self diagnosed is enough for me. Just knowing that I'm neurodivergent has been helpful for me to be kind to my own mind.
