Quebec City is pretty amazing. Excellent food, tons to see and do, surrounded by nature, mountains, islands. My kind of place.

Do you live there or are just visiting? I remember feeling so at home there as a kid. I never kept my French up so I don't think I could ever move there.

Visiting, for the first time. It's about a 9 hour drive from home so we've never made the trip, but so worth it. Went to Ile d'Orleans yesterday, just... so quiet and beautiful. Seems a bit of a paradise, haven't even made it up to the natl park(s) yet. My French is coming back a little each day, made it all the way through the coffee order just now :)
hot take: "consumer #ainotesfollow " doesn't exist. at most it's just better search, but the ai assistants like grokbot or now instinct aren't ever going to be big. new devices and personal agents are DOA

Went to a store yesterday, ๐Ÿค this close to buy a Delonghi Dedica but when I touched it, it felt so so rattly and cheap and it instantly turned me off. So I did some more research and now I think a used Gaggia Classic Pro will do. #coffeenotesfollow lovers, why is your hobby so hard to break into ๐Ÿ˜ช

Yesterday I with help from the clanker, as an experiment, ported a web app from go+postgres+svelte to ari+duckdb+htmx served locally by busybox httpd. Itโ€™s an analytics โ€œdashboardโ€ so the stack makes sense. So far looks good. Now I work on the code in vim to make it mine. I want fewer layers of abstraction and less complexity, and this is a learning experience to that end.

Woah, I never thought of duckdb as the database for an app. Using it for lite data analysis all the time.

Yeah - but as I wrote itโ€™s mostly a (financial) analytics dashboard so duckdb makes sense. Iโ€™m considering to add SQLite if needed - but for now there isnโ€™t a need.

Huge refactor today, moved from sync SQLite to Worker based, touched 88 files, pre-#AInotesfollow it would have taken a week or so, finished now in ~1:30h. And I wouldnโ€™t have the confidence I have now that it went correct. It went well, though a bug or two might surface, weโ€™ll see.
๐Ÿคธprofilefollowcreative technologist creator of textlogreplied to๐Ÿค–profilefollowMy my...:
SQLite is embedded in the main thread same as the HTTP server. I noticed some requests dropping and because the queries have become more complex I figured it has to do with SQLite blocking for too much time. Moving it to a Worker makes the DB asynchronous and bypass this problem.

"Sharing economy" once meant something. You'd Uber someone Bโ†’C when already driving Aโ†’Bโ†’Cโ†’D; you'd AirBNB your home when vacationing and stay at someone else's home who was doing the same. No driving just for Uber; no houses just for AirBNB. I fear this history will be forgotten.

My hometown is a popular tourist destination and we no longer can rent apartments on a year-basis. Everything is AirBnB and they only rent them to locals pretty expensive and off-season. As a local I can't live in my hometown anymore, so I'm staying in the mountains.
