How did all the tech oligarchs seem to go fash so quickly?

Actually, this makes sense to me - www.youtube.com/shorts/-sFwG2lt-nU

I've been on a kick lately of trying to visualize the oscillating clock, and ultimately the effectively arbitrarily complex activity of a computer processor, as modern refinements of the line shaft factory of the 19th century. Of compute as being not much more than profoundly refined "work" delivered by the electrical grid into marvelously complex machines. Does that, as a metaphor at least, feel as important to you as it has to me of late? We spend so much time in a world abstracted.

Hello World!

hi there! 👋 welcome!

Hi 👋

Writing. I want to do it, very badly. I just don't want to be bad at it. You have to be bad at it in order to get good at it. But... Catch 22 isn't it?

I think reading helps quite a bit, especially writing about what you’ve read, even to yourself, just so you can go through the process of having to explain something that you’re only recently familiar with. There’s something about that process that seems to be helpful, at least to me.

Same. The way I consume information influences how I think. Short form content makes my thinking fragmented without a clear structure. I feel that fragmented thinking won't lead to convincing writing. And I'm trying to regain some of that lost control.

Very interesting! I think something along those lines might be happening for me too. Another aspect, always cooking in the back of my mind, "if you can't explain it well, don't explain it at all."

…

The fear of being bad at it is the only thing holding you back. I experienced something like that with playing music with others. Perhaps you could learn to lay down your critical brain during the creation process and that good/bad isn't a useful distinction until later when you're editing your work.

Yeah, this is pretty much what I can't do. My critical brain has a lot of power. It's very evolved at this point :/

Just another micro blogging platform. It's minimal and it's fine.

moved to a new city recently and going to a Movie club meetup tonight. nervous cause I'm a huge introvert but I gotta make friends some way.

How did it go?

It went really well, thanks for asking! I met some folks I could definitely get along with long term and had some overlapping interests apart from films. We watched T**** Sex and Death at Camp Miasma, that was a trip. (there's apparently a content filter)

Had a little help from Claude to fix a bug in my NNW themes - to embed youtube videos directly in the theme. meaning NNW can now be my video player of choice from YT's RSS feeds directly. thechels.uk/…/nnw-theme-bundle-release-f3749adf9d58

Huge refactor today, moved from sync SQLite to Worker based, touched 88 files, pre- it would have taken a week or so, finished now in ~1:30h. And I wouldn’t have the confidence I have now that it went correct. It went well, though a bug or two might surface, we’ll see.

Good work! What motivated the refactor exactly? I'm not familiar at all with Worker

…

SQLite is embedded in the main thread same as the HTTP server. I noticed some requests dropping and because the queries have become more complex I figured it has to do with SQLite blocking for too much time. Moving it to a Worker makes the DB asynchronous and bypass this problem.

Huge refactor and no bugs. I’m genuinely impressed by the quality of output of GPT 5.6 Sol.

Bad night, first the boy woke up at midnight and went with him, then at 4 am heavy rain started so went to bring the bike to the terrace, then thunderstorm and kids were scary, then the cat meowed at 6am. I’m okay.

Haircut💇

Hola

Are tokens an equivalent of work? Like a currency and therefor a tool to steer and prioritize work in large orgs. Hypothesis: In the end all workpackages will consist of 1 accountable human and 99% tokens burnt by an ai.

I don't know anatomy, sigh. how do I draw Vulpes Inculta now..

I'll figure it out some how. learning anatomy is so hard and time consuming

This morning I was deleting a little of Gemma's attachments from the computer because I was starting to get tired of her antics, and then my dad said, "There's a guy on the internet" who's been doing this for twenty years, I don't know, if he hadn't noticed, I'd be doing the same thing anyway.

I think I’m gonna read devil man crybaby, I’ve always heard of it..

Oops! Looks like that’s the name of the show -_- I’ll give both a shot

Tried some after a long time again today. Couldn’t hold my thoughts for 15 seconds. I used to be able to and blank my mind for 5 to 10 minutes. Need to practice again, I remember how beneficial it was to my when I did it in the past.

I've heard it said that every moment you realize your mind has been wandering is a moment of clarity. So uhhh.... a moment of clarity every 15 seconds sounds pretty good

Mind should not wander. Mind should obey. :p

…

Personally, I think I found good framework/vocabulary to help with meditation in some discussion by Jiddu Krishnamurti. Here is one in which he works it out with kids There was a short, to the point lecture where he basically walks you through observing thought, which profoundly changed how I approach meditation but I can't find it for the life of me!

I'm in a similar spot. I haven't maintained a regular practice since I had kids. I can observe the absence of the benefits I got from my practice, too. I'm more reactive and less focused in general. I think that my practice gave me the tools I need to stay present with my daughters, though, so I'm grateful for having retained that.

Well this looks very nice indeed. Just dipping a hoof into the river for now ...

Which river? Asking because most rivers are contaminated these days. Be careful!

ty and welcome!

time.fyi/timezones is the most intuitive interface to working with different time zones I have used.

Ohhlala! I like it. Thank you!
