I think more than 50% of our economy's businesses, are cosplaying. Not in it for customers or profit; in it for investors and investments. "Looking like a business", as your real line of work.

I've never thought of something like OF as gambling. But I guess your point is that young adults are pushed to a lot of "you have a 0.1% chance of hitting it big and a 99.9% chance of getting no online traction at all" types of careers?

I know many small business owners, and a clear majority do have investors, whether spouse, parents, or a small business loan. Easily more than 50% never make a profit. I know a woman who ran a clothing retail store for over a decade, who was never able to pay herself a dime. When the pandemic hit, everyone closed, but the ones who actually needed the business to pay their bills opened up as soon as it was allowed or shortly thereafter. Many took years. They are cosplaying.
@jamesjan3profilefollowresearcher, developer, dancerreplied to@rossdavidhprofilefollow:
a business loan is not an investment, it is debt financing that pays back with interest. An investment means putting money into a company to gain ownership or a share of future profits. to me it feels like youre arguing against cosplaying, showing small businesses struggle and arent just playing boss for the funzies.

As young kid I dreamed of working with reel-to-reel machines Cutting/splicing tape, happy accidents As a teen I couldn't afford reel-to-reel but got decent with multi-track cassettes Everyone was telling me digital was The Way (tm) In my 30s, I finally learned how to use a DAW properly In my 40s, I'm back to playing around with multi-tracks cassettes There is no money in it, but I'm enthusiastic as I can be (this is not so much as direct response as simply a response) #musicnotesfollow #aifearnotesfollow

I feel the urge to do something like this, I don't have the brains for coding yet, but I would like to, just scripts, no serious programming languages, but after all, JavaScript is also a scripting language

I've spent way too much time recently writing TUIs for productivity (eg. merging github PRs, Google Chat DMs, firewall approval requests into one dashboard, another for watching actions on my PRs) and lost a lot of productivity as a result.

You've hit the nail on the head. But here's the mindblowing partโ€”writing isn't just about text on a page. It's not about listing a bunch of facts to memorize. Writing is about human connection. And here's where it gets even more fascinating... [parody, not AI]
@xlayn๐Ÿคชprofilefollowreplied to@procyon๐Ÿฆprofilefollowlate is the hour in which this conjuror chooses to appear:
Some writing yes, If you want to write a post saying why your company has a position yes; if you are documenting an API, does the average swagger page have a human connection factor? If you are in X/FB, is any of your followers a "human connection"?
@xlayn๐Ÿคชprofilefollowcontinued:
Then, in some spaces, say big corp communications, the terse, direct communication is desired, for example the quarter earning communication? What about software?, what part of your browser gives you the "human connection"?
@procyon๐Ÿฆprofilefollowlate is the hour in which this conjuror chooses to appearreplied to@xlayn๐Ÿคชprofilefollow:
If writing (incl X/FB posts) is meant to convey "some human being did/saw/thought this and found it worth writing about", then AI undermines human connection and will annoy people. API docs, earnings reports, &c never conveyed that to begin with, so nobody will care about AI use.

I dislike using aliases. I prefer fish shell like history search, fzf integration better.

That said, I stumbled upon a function (for zsh) that would expand an alias upon typing space. That's some great middle ground.
